Prolong Laptop Battery Life with Your System's Battery Care Settings

Prolong Laptop Battery Life with Your System's Battery Care SettingsAlthough you can't prevent your laptop's battery from degrading, there are several ways to slow down the process. Some systems have battery maintenance utilities that can make the battery life last 1.5 times longer by preventing the battery from charging fully.

Trouble Fixers notes that some laptops, like those from Sony and Lenovo, have special battery maintenance settings. These tools prevent the battery from being stored at full charge, which, as we've mentioned in our guide to prolonging battery life, can make a battery deteriorate much faster. If you have a Lenovo laptop, use its Power Management tool and the Battery Maintenance options. For Sony VAIOs, look for the Battery Care utility.

If your laptop doesn't have a maintenance tool like this, though, you can also remove the battery from the laptop when it's plugged in. This will protect the battery from excessive heat, which also degrades its lifespan. The makers of the BatteryCare app suggest you only remove the battery under intensive usage (e.g., gaming) or if your laptop tends to get very hot. Another guideline is the two-week rule of thumb for when to remove the laptop battery: If you're not going to use the laptop for two weeks or if you're going to use it plugged in continuously for two weeks or longer.

Be sure to follow other steps to maintain a healthy battery for all your gadgets. Hit the link below to read more on how to use the battery tools that come with your laptop.
